I am currently listening to a conference call where the discussion is focused on how detrimental social networking can be to relationships, Marriage in particular.

It can really be shocking to just read or observe what ideas people are communicating to one another online. One man on the call raised a great point that resonates with all I’ve been saying about authenticity: “In marriage there should be no secrets.” I always say that where there is nothing to hide there is nothing to fear.

I wonder if people who identify themselves as married would freely share conversations they have online with their spouse. I don’t mean to rant about this but I am an advocate for strong & healthy marriages and relationships. I do agree that since I’m married, my wife should have as much access to what I do online as she does to the half gallon of juice that is in the refrigerator.

But when that level of openness and access is granted it must be understood that judgment, condemnation, and accusation do not go hand in hand with authentic, transparent relation.

Would you allow your spouse to see what you tweet, post or say on Twitter & Facebook?

Do you have to hide your “friends”?
